Maximising Lighting Control with JUNG’s KNX Portfolio

Lighting control is no longer considered a luxury feature, but an essential part of a building’s infrastructure. By implementing a robust building control system, all lighting elements, whether in individual rooms, zones, or across entire floors can be seamlessly managed. Tailored lighting scenes, custom brightness levels and intelligent scheduling not only enhances interior design and user experience but can also significantly improves energy efficiency and reduce energy costs.

With over a 30-year pedigree, KNX has established itself as the global standard for holistic building automation, providing an unparalleled level of flexibility and design freedom for integrators, architects and building owners alike. Due to its open-protocol infrastructure KNX allows seamless interoperability between products with exceptional scalability and future proofing.

One of the most respected names in the KNX market is JUNG, a German manufacturer known worldwide for its precision engineering, quality control and design excellence. JUNG’s KNX portfolio spans both front-end and back-end devices, delivering complete building control solution. Their KNX lighting portfolio caters to projects of all sizes and complexities, from tailored scene control within a residential property to advanced commercial applications featuring RGB colour management and DALI integration. Core lighting elements include…

Mains Dimming

Mains dimming is used to control the brightness of conventional light sources such as incandescent lamps, halogen lights and dimmable LEDs. This method is simple to implement and integrates seamlessly with KNX actuators designed for leading-edge or trailing-edge dimming.

JUNG’s leading main dimming actuators includes a compact yet powerful 1-gang in-field device which provides single channel control, well suited for control expansion within an existing system and dedicated single channel requirements. Along with a versatile 4-channel dimming actuator which offers automatic load detection, smooth dimming curves and optimised energy efficiency.

RGB Dimming

RGB dimming allows independent control of red, green, and blue light channels to create a wide spectrum of colours. It is widely used for decorative, ambient or architectural lighting where dynamic effects and atmosphere are important. In a KNX system, RGB dimming can be automated through scenes and time-based controls, offering flexibility in design.

JUNG’s RBG portfolio offers a popular 5-gang LED controller in both din-rail and in-field variants allowing dynamic colour change applications to be easily added within a KNX ecosystem.

0–10V Dimming

0–10V dimming is an analog control method that adjusts light output by varying the control voltage between 0V (off) and 10V (full brightness). It is a reliable and widely adopted standard in commercial lighting, particularly for fluorescent and LED drivers. KNX integrates with 0–10V dimming via dedicated actuators, enabling centralised or automated brightness control.

JUNG offer a 4-gang actuator with key features including manual switching of the relays is independent of the bus, switching of capacitive loads and the resulting high switch-on currents along with feedback of switching state and brightness value

DALI Integration

DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) provides advanced, digital lighting control with features beyond simple dimming. Within a KNX project, DALI gateways bridge the two systems, combining KNX’s building automation capabilities with DALI’s advanced lighting performance.

To maximise the integration between DALI and KNX systems, JUNG offer 3 device variants which cater for both DALI Fully Addressable and DALI Broadcast, allowing tailored and efficient lighting control solutions to be achieve, no matter the project scope.

Mains Switching

Mains switching provides targeted on/off control for both internal and external lighting circuits. In KNX, switching actuators make this functionality simple while still allowing central control, automation and scheduling.

JUNG’s lighting control portfolio includes a wide array of switching actuators, with their latest generation including 6, 16 and 24-channel variations that maximise functional control which can be achieved whilst being efficient in din-rail sizing within the control panel.
