Centralised System Control with the Gira G1

Centralised System Control | Integrated Door Entry | Mirrored Interface to Gira X1 and Gira Home Server

From adjusting lighting and blinds, setting the room temperature and weather forecasting to scene control and door communication, the Gira G1 can be used to intuitively control a vast array of building functions. Each function, room or area can be allocated it's own display window for easy usability of individual or collective functions through touch / gesture control.

Functionality includes:

  • Customised design
  • Lighting
  • Temperature
  • Blinds
  • Timers
  • Scenes
  • Door Communication
  • Function Folder
  • Weather Forecasts
  • Encoding
  • Direct Functions
  • Status Display

G1: Gira X1 / Gira Home Server client.

For KNX systems which require a holistic touchscreen and app control solution this can be seamlessly achieved through the Gira X1 (app control) or the Gira Home Server (app control with additional functionality and logic). The G1 acts as client to either X1 or Home Server devices and the relevant interface is mirrored across all touchscreens, smartphones and tablet devices. This is a popular solution as it allows the end-user to have one consistent app for all functions.

Control Devices:

G1 for centralised control of a KNX system:

All G1 variants (PoE / 230V / 24V) require a KNX IP Router (GIR216700). For the PoE variant, a PoE network switch is required. The IP router is wired to the PoE network switch (via data cable) and then the PoE network switch is connected, again via data cable to the PoE G1. The G1 PoE gets both its power and connection to the KNX IP router through the wired PoE data connection.

For the 230V and 24V variants, power is required through the relevant power cable. A wireless connection from the G1 (230V or 24V) to the KNX IP router is then required.

he most common design variant is the G1 PoE but selection is based on whatever is the easiest method of supplying the G1 with power.

G1 for centralised control of a KNX system with integrated door communication:

In addition to an IP router a Gira DCS IP gateway (GIR262097C) and Gira DC 24V Power Supply (GIR129600) are required. Three licence types are available with the GIR262097C (5 / 10 / 20) which refers to the number of devices which can be connected to the door communication system at one time. The GIR262097C and GIR129600 require a 2-core wired connection (KNX cable can be used). Additional external units and control devices are required to complete an internal / external door communication system.

G1 for door communication only:

Use of the G1 as an internal Home Station requires a Gira DCS IP gateway (GIR262097C) and Gira DC 24V Power Supply (GIR129600) only. The same licence types as above are applicable for the GIR262097C unit. The GIR262097C and GIR129600 require a 2-core wired connection (KNX cable can be used).

G1 as X1 client:

In addition to the GIR216700, the G1 requires a Gira X1 (GIR209600) and Gira Power Supply DC 24V (GIR129600). For secure system access via a smartphone or tablet whilst outside the property a Gira S1 is required (GIR208900) to provide a complete touchscreen and app control solution. A wired KNX connection is required for all units and relevant power consumption calculations are required when powering multiple devices per power supply.

G1 as Home Server client:

In addition to GIR216700, the G1 requires a Gira Home Sever 4 (GIR052900). For secure system access via smartphone or tablet whilst outside the property a Gira S1 is required (GIR208900) to provide a complete touchscreen and app control solution. A wired KNX connection is required for all units. A wired KNX connection is required for all units and relevant power consumption calculations are required when powering multiple devices per power supply.

G1 with integrated temperature sensor:

Requires Gira temperature sensor module (GIR209100) which attaches to the bottom of the G1 unit.
